Herpes Testing

Same Day Herpes Testing

What is Herpes?
Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2).
What are the Symptoms of Herpes?
Most individuals have no or only minimal signs or symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. Symptoms typically appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender sores that may take two to four weeks to heal. Typically, another outbreak can appear weeks or months after the first, but it almost always is less severe and shorter than the first outbreak.
When Is Herpes Detectable?
The time it takes for IgG antibodies to reach detectable levels can vary from person to person. For one person, it could take just a few weeks, while it could take a few months for another.

Even with the most accurate blood tests available at LAB TEST FLORIDA, a person could receive a false negative if the test is taken too soon after contracting the virus. For the most accurate test result, it is recommended to repeat the test in 3 or 4 months.
Herpes Types HSV1 and HSV2
HSV type 1 causes cold sores (also called fever blisters) on the lips. HSV-1 is generally spread by kissing or by sharing eating utensils (such as spoons or forks) when sores are present. HSV-1 can also cause sores around the genitals.
HSV type 2 causes sores in the genital area (genital herpes), such as on or around the vagina or penis. HSV-2 also causes the herpes infection seen in babies who are delivered vaginally in women who have genital herpes. HSV-2 is generally spread by sexual contact. HSV-2 can sometimes cause mouth sores.
Herpes and Oral Sex
A study showed that women who received oral sex were nearly nine times as likely to become infected with HSV-1 as those who were sexually abstinent. By performing oral sex on someone who has genital herpes, it would be possible to contract oral herpes - but this is rare.
How can you get Herpes?
Herpes can be spread by vaginal, oral, or anal contact, by kissing, and skin to skin contact. It can spread from one person to another or it can spread from one body part to another. Herpes can be passed on very easily, skin contact is enough, especially when the skin is cut, chafed, or burned, or has a rash or other sores. Herpes is the most infectious when the scores are open, moist, or fluid is leaking out. You can get herpes from skin to skin contact, oral, vaginal, and anal sex. The easiest way for herpes to spread is when there is an open, active sore. But you can still get herpes when there’s no outbreak at all. We’ll say that again. You can still get herpes even when your partner is not having symptoms or showing any open sores.
