What is Kidney Functions test Checking?
Creatinine and Urea (Blood urea nitrogen BUN) are two waste products in blood that the kidneys filter out and excrete as urine. When kidneys are not functioning optimally, levels of creatinine and urea can build up in the blood stream causing elevated levels of these biomarkers.

Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (EGFR) is the rate at whoch fluid that is filtered out of the blood is processed by kidneys. EGFR is an important indicator of early kidney disease. Low EGFR rates may indicate kidney disease, with very low levels indicating more severe kidney disease.

Potassium is a mineral in the blood that helps the heart and muscles work properly. A potassium level that is too high or too low may weaken muscles and change the heartbeat.

What are Kidney functions?
The kidneys, the body's natural filtration system, perform many vital functions, including removing metabolic waste products from the bloodstream, regulating the body's water balance, and maintaining the pH (acidity/alkalinity) of the body's fluids. Approximately one and a half quarts of blood per minute are circulated through the kidneys, where waste chemicals are filtered out and eliminated from the body (along with excess water) in the form of urine. Kidney function tests help to determine if the kidneys are performing their tasks adequately. .
